Philosophy professor Barry Allen has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society’s Academy of Arts & Humanities. His  research in comparative global philosophy focuses on aesthetics, technology, and the theory of knowledge in Chinese and Western philosophical traditions. In 2015, Dr. Allen published two books: Vanishing into Things: Knowledge in Chinese Tradition (Harvard, 2015) and, most recently, Striking Beauty: A Philosophical Look at the Asian Martial Arts (Columbia, 2015) which has been described in multiple reviews as a groundbreaking, original and inspiring work.
